With 19 years of direct medical experience and 15 years in leadership, Dr. Grahek brings steady, clinical expertise and calm, ethical decision-making to the Coroner’s Office.

A doctor of nursing practice (DNP) with an emphasis on acute care and family practice with deep training in anatomy, toxicology, pharmacology, and investigative diagnostics, Dr. Grahek has spent a career working in high-stakes situations where facts matter, families need clarity, and professionals must lead with empathy and discipline. His background includes managing teams, guiding staff development, and overseeing multi-million-dollar budgets with a “lead from the front” approach.

At the core of this campaign is a simple commitment: tell the truth, protect public trust, and treat every person with dignity because the Coroner’s Office is the voice for those who no longer can be.

Gregory C. Grahek is the most Qualified for Pueblo County Coroner

Gregory C. Grahek, DNP, ACNP-BC, FNP-BC, D-ABMDI brings unmatched scientific education, advanced medical training, and nationally recognized medicolegal certification to the office of Coroner.

His qualifications reflect decades of dedication to science, medicine, and public service:

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry & Biology — University of Southern Colorado (1997)
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing — Colorado State University (2005)
  • Master of Science in Nursing (Acute Care & Family Nurse Practitioner) — Colorado State University (2007)

  • Diplomate Certified, American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (ABMDI) (2026)

When Dr. Grahek was appointed under emergent circumstances, he understood that meeting the highest professional standards—and legal requirements for future elected service—was essential.

He immediately began the certification process and earned his ABMDI Diplomate certification before formally announcing his campaign.

Dr. Grahek has the education.
Dr. Grahek has the training.
Dr. Grahek has the certification.
And most importantly—Dr. Grahek has the experience to lead.

This office is too important for on-the-job learning. It requires science, medicine, investigative expertise, and accountability.

With over 20 years in medicine caring for our community from birth to death, Dr. Grahek has the clinical experience, scientific knowledge, and compassionate leadership this office demands.

Colorado law now requires that coroners elected in counties with populations over 150,000 after November 5, 2024, hold certification and be in good standing with the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (or be a board-certified forensic pathologist).
